May 2, 2019

Welcome back to LASH Construction’s Community Portal. Here you will find monthly updates on the progress of our Distinction residential condominium project located at 11 Lillian St. (the corner of Lillian and Soudan.) Our goal is to provide the community with an interactive space where we provide updates on our progress, as well as the ability to contact the developer with questions or concerns relating to the project. Please always remember if a situation is observed that is an actual emergency please contact 911.

Progress. Progress. Progress. Building towards the sky at Lillian and Soudan. The building is starting to take shape towards its final form as we are now beyond the ground floor elements; and now onto residential floor forming.

Now that we are beyond the excavated foundation the forming is modified to allow for the pouring of outside walls. Rebar and concrete are still utilized daily in this phase. Concrete wall and column pours are preceded by slab pours.

As the slabs are formed from below they require the most amount of concrete to complete. Finishing these slab pours, which are the subfloor of residential units, requires a lengthy finishing process. Generally a day on site when we pour a slab section the physical pouring of the concrete takes the majority of the working day, with finishing continuing on well into the evening hours. Machines, known as power trowels, and colloquially as “helicopters,” are used to create a smooth finish on the freshly poured concrete. It is not uncommon, and it is necessary, for this process to last well into the evening hours. Please note that City of Toronto bylaw allows for this necessary step to occur.

There have been some inquiry about this process. As always we are working with all our trades to mitigate any and all unnecessary noise being created.

After a slab is poured, power troweled and finished, wall and column forms are placed on top to reach towards the next residential level; and yet another slab pour. The building slab is poured in multiple sections per floor allowing for both progress on slab and columns/walls to occur daily, and in harmony, as we build skyward. Exterior and interior demising elements are poured at the same time. As well Electricians, Plumbers, and HVAC/Mechanical trades are prepping the walls and slab for future piping/electrical and HVAC connections.

Concrete and Structural Reinforcement Bar continue to be on order every day. And will be coming and going from site as necessary.
